“I preserve getting requested to battle [Robert] whittaker,” Strickland tweeted. “I beat Izzy, the world is aware of I beat dricus. Whittaker misplaced to each. I’m the number one contender, I defended that spot simply towards Costa.
“I’ll wait…..”
Strickland and Whittaker are each hoping for rematches, whatever the du Plessis vs. Adesanya end result. Whittaker misplaced to du Plessis at UFC 290 by TKO and has two losses on his file towards Adesanya.
Strickland pulled off one of many greatest upsets in UFC historical past when he dethroned Adesanya at UFC 293. He’s defeated the likes of Abus Magomedov, Nassourdine Imavov, and Jack Hermansson throughout his UFC tenure.
Whereas a matchup with Whitaker is smart for either side, Strickland isn’t backing down from his holding sample, and time will inform if his plan pays off.
